I have written over 30 novels and millions of words in columns. I have travelled the world and lived in many countries. I am a scholar, a libertarian, a sensualist, a sentimentalist and a sceptic, a lifelong surfer, horseman and fisherman.
What have these to do with my new book Swinging: The Games Your Neighbours Play? Well, maybe they just indicate that I love to attune myself to my environment and to others, that I take enormous pleasure from borrowing ecstatic power far greater than we humans could ever possess alone.
Incredibly, although there are many millions of swingers worldwide, this is the first book ever written about the Lifestyle from the point of view of a fulltime swinger.
It is not sensationalist. It does not gasp or drool or tut. It tells of first forays into this lovely, companionable world, of the characters, the protocol, the threesomes, the foursomes, orgies and clubs in Britain and abroad. It tells of the history of swinging, of the unorthodox but nonetheless passionate and rewarding relationships which spring up between us, of the enduring friendships – and the odd weirdo - and the moral and emotional factors which lead us into the Lifestyle and keep us there for life.
You may recognise friends and locations in this book. If you are a swinger, you will certainly relate to many of the case-studies, the pleasures and the problems.
